Kindergarten

Kindergarten instruction is currently provided on a full-day or half-day basis to those students who have reached the age of 5. Students must reach the age of 5 before September 1st of each school year in order to be admitted to the kindergarten program. Transportation is provided by the district one way for kindergarten students: to the morning and full-day sessions and from the afternoon sessions. Parents are responsible for making the necessary arrangements from morning and full-day kindergarten sessions and to afternoon kindergarten sessions.

Children are assigned to the full-day class based on developmental need as indicated by the Brigance Early Screen and by lottery for any remaining roster openings.

Curriculum

The approved curriculum for Norwin elementary schools revolves around instruction in the basic skills of reading, arithmetic, writing, science, social studies, music, art, health and physical education which are written, taught and appropriately tested. The curriculum is coordinated in such a way as to provide uniformity of instructional time throughout the entire elementary program. The success of the elementary program is regularly documented through the results of the yearly standardized tests. Those results continually place Norwin significantly above the national average of scores in these tests.
