Course Selection and Scheduling Alert:

 

Course Selection for the 2010-2011 school year is now underway!

 

Students will have the opportunity to log into the Skyward system from home and schedule online. We welcome parents to sit down and help their children with course selection.

 

After you (student) log into Skyward, you will see a new link "Courses for 2010-2011" on the left-hand side.  Click on this link to begin the course selection process.

Counselors will begin meeting with students to review courses after the online window is closed. After this window is closed, all changes must be made through the Guidance Office.

Last day to request changes is May 21st.

Course Scheduling

Graduation from Norwin High School is based upon the successful completion of a minimum of 25.5 credits in Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 and demonstration of proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics. Because the Norwin School
District curriculum is aligned with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards and Assessment Anchors, successful completion of the District’s academic requirements enable any Norwin student who has demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics to graduate from Norwin High School. The requirements are 25.5 credits, divided as follows:

 

4.5 credits

English

3.0 credits

Mathematics

Sophomores and juniors enrolled at the CWCTC program will also be required to take math credits at Norwin.

3.0 credits

Science (Must successfully complete three (3) full-year Science courses)

Beginning with the class of 2011, students must take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in order to graduate.

4.0 credits

Social Studies

2.0 credits

Arts or Humanities or both

0.5 credit

Health

2.0 credits

Physical Education

5.0 credits

Electives

1.0 credit

PSSA

0.5 credit

Graduation Project

 

The previously listed courses are the required courses necessary for graduation. Should a student fail any of these required courses, they must be repeated either in summer school, if available, or the following academic year in order for a student to remain on schedule to receive a Norwin High School Diploma. Students who pass summer school courses will receive a passing grade (60%) on their transcript.
